‘Tis the season for hot cocoa and yummy treats! With our first big snow storm of the season coming this week, I figured it was the perfect time to share the hot cocoa board I created this past weekend!
I have been seeing hot cocoa boards all over Instagram and Pinterest and decided to give them a try. I began by thinking of what treats I would enjoy with some hot cocoa. Now, this will differ for everyone. I have seen boards with Italian cookies, oreos, Hershey Kisses, and peppermints! I just chose treats that spoke to me, and that I loved. Here is how it came out:
What I Included in my Hot Cocoa Board:
- mini marshmallows
- Chocolate covered Oreos (did the chocolate myself)
- M&Ms (peanut butter & regular)
- Candy Canes
- Chocolate dipped pretzels (did the chocolate myself)
- Home made gingerbread cookies
- Chocolate chips
- Hot Cocoa Mix
Gingerbread Cookie Recipe
I used this recipe to make my gingerbread cookies. I have actually never made gingerbread before! This recipe to be very easy to follow, and the cookies were delicious. Some people commented that they used less molasses, but I stuck with the true recipe. Of course, you can always buy cookies to make your board a bit simpler!
Assembly of Hot Cocoa Board
I began by placing my bowls of items in the four corners of my wooden board. Then, I played around with what looked the best. A lot of my items were dark (Oreos, pretzels, chocolate chips), so I wanted to break them up with some of the other colors. That is why I have the marshmallows mixed throughout the board, as well as the peppermint candy canes. Of course, I could have taken the M&Ms out of the bowl and sprinkled them across the board, but something about the bowls felt better this time around!
Hot Cocoa Bombs
We also used hot cocoa bombs. I didn’t have them on hand when I made the board. We got six different bombs from a local (MA) bakery- Carolina’s CakeShop . She had a variety of flavors to choose from, and even had the option to put some liquor in them! We went with salted caramel, butter beer (any Harry Potter fans out there?), cookies & cream, s’mores, and a traditional milk chocolate. These bombs were definitely fun, and tasty! I highly suggest finding a local bakery and trying these out.
Such a perfect treat for a cold winter night! I hope you give it a try. If you do, tag me so I can see your wonderful boards!
